Thanks to the amazing work of Derek Spears we are now a non-profit 501(c)3 and are ready to have a big fundraising push over summer to send the Oregon Reign to Gay Bowl in Denver.
We are planning for two large events this summer. We are going to work with a few bars to schedule a beer bust sometime in June of July. We are also planning a NFL Kickoff Party right before Gay Bowl to raise the remaining money we need! We also plan to visit scheduled events, such as Drag Brunches and other bar related events, to sell Jello-Shots.
We are also seeking sponsorship from local businesses in the Portland area. We would love to set up connections that would help us as we grow into a full-fledged league next Spring and benefit both our league and the business.
We are looking for help with events over summer as well as any connections anyone might have to local businesses that might be interested in supporting our team and future league. Please message Jake Lee or Derek Spears to let us know if you are interested in helping or can guide us in the direction of interested sponsors.
Thank you again Derek! Awesome work.
It was a beautiful night for some 5-man football in SE Portland last night as the Huddle Buddies took on the CRB War Elephants in their third game of the season. CRB is a long running Portland Football team so this was set to be a battle.
But the Huddle Buddies came ready to play! Woody Gray picked off the second pass of the game and makes a gorgeous return to mid-field, just minus his flags, but the tone was set and the Huddle Buddies never looked back.
The offense was truly in-sync and three games in the offensive MVP continues to be Brian Buck. CRB truly didn't have an answer for him. Brian catches the first 5 passes of the game and sets the tone offensively. Big Booty Judy was truly unstoppable. Zach continues to remind the rest of us how slow we are and QB Chris has some beautiful throws all evening.
In the first two games, the Huddle Buddies struggled to find a defensive rhythm. 5-man is not a defensive game but the Huddle Buddies found a great rhythm defensively with great pressure on the QB and good coverage to have 3 big time defensive stops, the key to winning 5-man football.
It was a great night.
The Huddle Buddies are finding a groove and take the game against CRB War Elephants 78-61 to move to 2-1.
It was a great night for some football tonight at Buckman Field. The rain held off just long enough for the Huddle Buddies to take on the Hot Wings, one of the leagues top team.
The Hot Wings took an early lead and never looked back. The Huddle Buddies brought it back to within one score late in the game but still end up losing their first game of the season! Woody Graywas an absolute beast making amazing plays on both offense and defense. Derek Spears and Brian Buck were fantastic on offense. Buck was clutch across the middle and continues to be a dominate force on the goal line with his signature "Big Booty Judy" touchdown move. Derek was all over the field making amazing long catch after long catch to keep the Huddle Buddies in the game. It was great to Keiki Nelson out for his first game of the season and we appreciate all our athletic supporters lead by the always fabulous Robert :) Thank you Mark S Sykes for coming and taking some photos. We really appreciate it.
Till next week everyone. Our league leaders will be meeting soon to finalize our summer fundrasiers. Keep an eye out for the info.
Have a great week. Gooooooo Huddle Buddies!
Huddle Buddies kicked off their Spring Season tonight at Buckman Field in SE Portland. It was our first game of the Spring 5-man season. Sporting red shirts with a rainbow flags, these fabulous queens were ready to make their presence felt in the predominately straight Portland Football League. It was a beautiful Sunday evening for some flag football.
5-man can best be described as scoring mayhem. QB Chris hit Brian "Always Open" Buck for the first score of the game. Their opponents marched right down the field utilizing a very tight short game with underneath sweeps and motion pitches. Woody knocked down the extra point to make the score 7-6.
The next drive Chris hit Brian for a 30 yard TD. Huddle Buddies are up 14-6. Their opponents marched right down the field making the score 14-13. QB Chris hits Zach for quick TD. Extra point is good making score 21-13. Opponents march right down and score. Extra point no good. 21-19. Chris hits Jake from 20 yards. Extra point is good. Huddle Buddies are up 29-19. Opponents have a very tight offense and score quickly. Woody makes a great play to bat down extra point taking score 29-25.
Chris hits Hayden from 25 yards out. Extra point no good. 35-25 Huddle Buddies up. Buck makes an awesome pick and makes a great pitch to Woody to end the half but the play is called back. Ugh. Hail mary falls short. It's 35-25 at half.
Our opponents open up half with a quick score and extra point. 35-32. Brian does his signature "box out" touchdown. Extra point by Aaron is good. Huddle Buddies are up 42-32. Opponents score on the first play. Extra point is no good. Huddle Buddies are up 42-38.
Next Huddle Buddies drive results in a pick six by the opponents giving them their first lead of the game. Extra point was good. Opponents are up 45-42. Huddle buddies recover with a quick strike to Zach taking the lead again. Extra point is good. 49-45 Huddle Buddies. Opponents march right down the field. Extra point no good. 51-49 Opponents in the lead. Huddle Buddies score on an Aaron TD. Extra point to Hayden is good. 56-51. Huddle Buddies.
Both teams score quickly. Opponents score again bringing the score to 71-68 with one minute left. Chris utilizes short passes to control clock and the hits Zach on clutch TD to bring the score to 74-71. Opponents try laterals and trick plays in the final 20 seconds to no avail.
Huddle Buddies win their first game of the season. See you next Sunday at Buckman Field! Thank you to all the players that came out for our first game of the 5-man season.
It was awesome to hang out at Crush after sharing laughs and plans for Gay Bowl. Hope to see some new faces next week. Go Huddle Buddies.
